Why Our Raw Pet Food Isn’t Labeled “Human Grade”—And Why That’s a Good Thing

At My Pet Carnivore, we’re proud to make raw food the way nature intended—whole, fresh, and biologically appropriate. While our products come from healthy animals, FDA licensed facilities, and even USDA-inspected sources, you still won’t find the words “human grade” on our labels. Many customers want to know why, and we're proud to tell you.

The term “human grade” in pet food has strict legal requirements—and they don’t align with what raw-fed pets truly need:

  1. No Ground Bone is Allowed in Human Grade Pet Food.
Human-grade meats can’t include ground bone. But bone is essential to a balanced raw diet. Instead of using synthetic supplements or bone meal, we grind fresh bone right into the mix, just like nature designed. That one step disqualifies us from using the “human grade” label, even though the meat itself is USDA-inspected.
  2. Human Grade Pet Food Must Be Fully Cooked.
According to FDA and AAFCO standards, “human grade” pet food must be processed like ready-to-eat human meals—which means it must be cooked. But raw feeders know the value of fresh, unprocessed nutrition. If a product is truly raw, it legally cannot be labeled human grade.

We choose to stay true to raw feeding principles. That means whole prey ratios, fresh ground bone, raw organs, and unaltered nutrition—all sourced with care and crafted in clean, safe facilities.  No shortcuts. No marketing spin. Just real food, the way your carnivore was meant to eat.
