In the world of raw feeding, the goal is simple: feed as close to nature as possible. For our pets’ wild cousins, that means consuming whole prey—from nose to tail, inside and out. While some organs like liver and kidney are relatively easy to source, others are much harder to come by. Enter the rare nutritional jewels: brains and eyes.
At My Pet Carnivore, we’re working hard to expand and keep in stock our growing line of raw heads. Currently, you’ll find duck heads, chicken heads, and rabbit heads are often available—and we’re hoping to add turkey heads soon!
Why Feed Heads?
Brains & Eyes = Omega-3 Powerhouses
Both brains and eyes are rich in omega-3 fatty acids—essential nutrients that support your pet’s heart, joints, and cognitive health.
Eye Health from the Inside Out
Eyes also contain unique compounds like lutein and zeaxanthin, known to support healthy vision and protect against oxidative stress. These nutrients would be naturally available in a wild diet when consuming whole prey.
A Step Toward True Whole Prey Feeding
Including heads in your pet’s raw diet helps mimic what nature intended. Wolves, foxes, wildcats, and other carnivores don’t stop at the shoulders—they consume the entire animal, gaining valuable nutrition from every part.
How to Include Heads in Your Pet’s Diet
We know not everyone is ready to feed a whole head at mealtime—and that’s okay! We offer plenty of options to make it easy to include these nutrient-rich parts in your pet’s diet:
- Whole Heads: Rabbit heads, duck heads, and chicken heads are available for those feeding whole parts.
- Whole Prey: Our whole prey rabbits & whole prey fish options naturally include the head.
- Grinds with Heads Included: Many of our whole grinds made from smaller prey animals include the head ground in—such as muskrat, rabbit, chicken, and duck.
💡 Heads-Up Tip: Eyes have been spotted in coarse chicken and duck grinds! If you weren’t expecting it, take a breath and remember—you’re seeing the visible proof that your pet is receiving the full nutritional benefit of head-inclusive grinds.
The Takeaway
Feeding heads might feel unconventional at first, but they are packed with vital nutrients that nature designed for carnivores. Whether you choose whole heads, whole prey, or grinds with the head included, you’re giving your pet a diet that’s closer to what they would eat in the wild.
