According to Wikipedia: “The pancreas is a glandular organ in the digestive system & endocrine system of vertebrates. It is both an endocrine gland producing several important hormones, including insulin, glucagon, somatostatin & pancreatic polypeptide, and a digestive organ, secreting pancreatic juice containing digestive enzymes that assist the absorption of nutrients and the digestion in the small intestine. These enzymes help to further break down the carbohydrates, proteins & lipids in the chyme.”
Pancreas is a normal part of a raw-fed diet. In addition to feeding pancreas for variety, pet caregivers seek out pancreas to combat a lifethreatening condition called EPI. There are several dog breeds & some cats predisposed to EPI, Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency. By adding pancreas regularly to an EPI-afflicted dog/cat’s diet, pet guardians have taken charge of their pet’s health and restored vitality for years to come. EPI has also been kept under control by eliminating kibble and instead feeding a raw diet as Mother Nature intended.
Many raw-feeders also add pancreas to combat pancreatitis in their pets. It’s the idea of feeding to the health need.
Consult your vet regarding EPI, pancreatitis and how to restore your pet’s health.
